For those of you not yet really familiar with Asterisk or like me who wants to have the appropriate book to refer each time it is necessary, the second edition of “The Future of Telephony” is now available. If you could only buy one book on the Asterisk topic, this one is probably the best choice, a must read prior any installation or IP telephony project.

We have talked some weeks ago about the new Asterisk site called AstPligg (in our French edition), where people can share and vote on Asterisk related article. Back from vacation, we were surprised by the fact one of our article was on Astpligg. The article is about Asterisk redundancy with a very straightforward approach: “Asterisk redundancy, a very simple approach” (also available in French).
Thanks a lot to Astpligg readers who have voted this article (gamma, ragno, lenz, pedroso), we consider this as a good point and this gives us energy to continue our adventure of providing our readers with information and tips on voice over IP and the Asterisk solution.

Next generation cell phones would implement Wi-Fi
From the In-Stat study named Worldwide Demand for Wi-Fi/Cellular Combo Phones, half of responders would like Wi-Fi support on their next cell phone. This could push vendors and operators to implement this feature in order to allow SIP connection to in-house PBX in addition to the global cell network.

New name and new hosting service.
The load on our server was a bit high and our Internet bandwidth too low for the increasing traffic on this site. Thus we decided to move it to a new hosting service and also use a new name and Internet domain. This is the occasion to introduce you Panoramisk, druid of the village where Asterisk, Obelisk and Idefisk are living.
The old server will still remain alive to redirect some hits during the migration process. We hope you will still envoy our new service and thank you again for visiting us.
